DOT Drug Testing

Federally compliant testing for CDL drivers and other safety-sensitive employees, administered in full accordance with 49 CFR Part 40 — covering pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return-to-duty testing.

DOT drug testing follows a much stricter set of rules than a typical workplace or personal drug test. Every step of the process — from how the specimen is collected, to the paperwork that documents it, to how it’s transported and handled at each stage — is governed by federal chain-of-custody procedures designed to protect the integrity of the result and hold up to legal and regulatory scrutiny. Specimens are collected using the federal Custody and Control Form, tested at HHS-certified laboratories, and ultimately reviewed by a Medical Review Officer before a result is ever reported to an employer.

Perhaps most importantly, federal regulations do not allow just anyone to perform a DOT collection. Under 49 CFR Part 40, only a specifically trained and qualified collector is permitted to conduct a DOT drug test — this requires completing federally defined qualification training and successfully passing a proficiency demonstration before ever collecting a real specimen, along with refresher training every five years to stay current. Dr. Jenkins has completed this required training and proficiency demonstration and is a qualified DOT collector, so every DOT test performed in our office is conducted in full compliance with federal requirements from the moment you walk in the door.
