• Which test should be used?

Hair follicle testing is generally the better choice when you need a longer look-back window — it can detect substance use going back approximately 90 days, making it well suited for pre-employment screening, periodic compliance checks, or situations where someone might try to abstain briefly before a test. Hair samples are also harder to adulterate or substitute than urine, and a single collection provides a much broader history of use rather than a narrow snapshot.

Urine testing, on the other hand, is the right choice when the priority is detecting recent use — typically within the past few days, sometimes up to a couple of weeks depending on the substance. It’s faster, less expensive, and is the federally mandated standard for DOT-regulated testing, so it’s the required option for CDL drivers and other safety-sensitive positions regardless of preference. • How much will the testing cost?

An in-house urine test is $40. A laboratory-conducted urine test is $100. A hair analysis ranges from $180 to $300 or more, depending on the specific drugs being tested for.

The panel of drugs covered by a urine test is fixed, but hair testing offers multiple panel options at different price points. Once we know the specific drugs or drug categories in question — whether specified by an employer, an attorney, a court, or a government agency — we can select the lowest-cost hair panel that still covers everything required.

Whether you’re the person being tested, an attorney or other court representative, a government agency, or an employer, a few things are worth knowing regardless of who’s requesting the test: All in-office collections are conducted personally by Dr. Jenkins, all laboratory specimens are sent using proper chain-of-custody procedures to preserve their evidentiary integrity, and directly observed urine collection is available as an add-on at additional cost when required.

• How fast are results available?

In-office urine tests result forms are available within 15 minutes.

Samples for the lab are sent out by courier daily and results are available in 1-2 weeks.

• How long will the office visit take?

The office visit will take 15-30 minutes.

• How long of a wait is it for an appointment?

We can schedule your appointment for within 1 business day.

• What forms of payment are accepted?

We prefer payment by cash, Venmo or credit card. No personal checks will be accepted. Payment must be made prior to testing.

• Who gets the test results?

We take client confidentiality very seriously. When you are filling out your paperwork, you will be offered the chance to fill out a HIPAA information release form, at which time you can provide the name and FAX number (if available) of others that you want to receive the test results directly. This may be a family member, attorney, or agency, and you can list up to three recipients.

When the results arrive at our office, the person taking the test will be notified directly by our portal system, and the results my be retrieved directly by logging into the portal and downloading them. Recipients with FAX numbers will receive the report by FAX. All others will have to present to our office with government-issued picture ID to receive a copy of the results.

Please note: We will never leave a telephone message for the person taking the test stating that their results are in. Nor will we provide results if to anyone calling to get them. Only those listed as recipients will receive inquiry callbacks.

• What needs to be brought to the office visit?

All we need at the time of the test will be a government-issued photo ID and a form of payment. Please do not bring with you a previously-collected urine sample. It cannot be used, for fairly obvious reasons.

• What are your privacy policies?

As noted above, only those listed as accepted result recipients will be able to receive test results from us. They will have to provide the test taker’s full name and date of birth, and an acceptable means of identification (in the case of attorney, court representative, or agency, we will give them a callback at a confirmed number).

All other callers or in-person requests will not receive any information from us, including any confirmation that the person has taken any tests through us.
